Phillae

Back to Our Egypt Trip

Phillae, as we approached. Phillae is a temple dedicated to Hathor and Isis. Both were mother goddesses from the New Kingdom (c.1550-c.1069). A small chapel, dedicated to Hathor, goddess of music and dance, has scenes of musical instruments being played by animals and humans.

Phillae was moved to this island to escape the rising waters of Lake Nasser, due to construction of the High Dam at Aswan.

Some of the open lotus columns at Phillae.

A view of a portion of the lake from a door at Phillae. In the foreground, one of the many lights used for their evening sound and light show. We came back, in the evening, to view the show.
